Exercises and case studies are based on the computer programs Plaxis and SAP2000.

Plaxis 2D version 8 is a user-friendly computer program that is used by geotechnical engineers worldwide for deformation calculations, stability assessment, and consolidation analysis. It contains special options for soil-structure interaction. It has a fully automatic mesh generator based on graphical input of soil-layer geometries, and several features to facilitate input and analysis of complex situations. In addition, the new 3D Plaxis programs (3D Tunnel and 3D Foundation) are used for the introduction into 3D finite element analysis of complex problems.

SAP2000 is a finite element program for structural analysis and includes nonlinear time-history capabilities. It has been used for seismic design of bridges, tunnel linings, retaining walls, wharf facilities, and buildings.
